WELL, THE FORMULA ONE series for 2006 is upon us, and it's time to make our way to the race tracks of the world and race against the best of what this season has to offer. Formula One 2006 is the licensed franchise of the series so we have donned our helmets and taken it for a spin. One aspect of the game that immediately becomes apparent when you first hit the ignition switch is the vast amount of features and tweaks. First off the starting grid is the choice of country from which your driver hails. Unfortunately New Zealand does not rate an appearance, however Australia is there - plus all the other usual suspects. Next you get to choose the team you are racing for. You'll find all the companies of the 2006 season including Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Honda, etc. You can create your own character, nickname, face (including a selection of female drivers) and helmet design. Actual game options include Quick Race, Time Trial, a Grand Prix weekend where you time trial to qualify and run the big race, World Championship, and a full Career Mode. Once you have selected the race type you can choose a track from all the current tracks in the 2006 World Championship circuit. It does not stop there though; you can customise most of the game play, including the difficulty, damage settings, length of race, steering and the gearing. Just as well too, as initially Formula One 2006 has a steep learning curve.
